20 Modern Apartment Décor Ideas to Suit Any Size Space

interior design apartment

This way, you’ll only buy what you really want and what fits your style vision. Shelves are a great way to add storage to your apartment without taking up too much floor space. Install some floating shelves on the wall and use them to store books, plants, or knick-knacks.

For a Unique Bedroom Try These Alternative Decor Ideas

For some guidance, take notes from this space designed by Arent & Pyke. The curves of this headboard along with the warm, deep colors ground the room and fill it with an edgy intensity, while pink linens soften things up. To make a rental feel more personal and homey, make your mark with a monogramed shower curtain, towels, or robe.

Play Up Windows

Layer multiple soft textiles like rugs, blankets, and bedding in shades of white to blur the lines and create a coherent whole. In this bedroom by Milk and Honey Life, a mixture of linen, plush blankets, and natural wood grains combine for a dreamy farmhouse vibe. White walls match the dominant bedding, while unique bedside tables bring out colors from accessories and the bed's frame. Another long-lasting interior designer trick is the use of mirrors in small spaces.

Art-Filled Studio Apartment

While you might subtly vary paint tones or patterns room-by-room, add one flooring type throughout to your list of apartment decor ideas. While considering apartment decor ideas, don't forget to create an intimate link between them and your apartment patio ideas. One way to do so is by choosing landscaping materials that suit and complement the architecture of your home; another is to ensure the indoor and outdoor spaces are merged visually. This is particularly important for your apartment living room ideas.

Upgrade the Lighting

'You can’t go wrong with a neutral wall, as it complements other colors well and creates a crisp, versatile backdrop. 'Making a home feel comfortable is always a priority when designing a space, as is creating something that feels unique to each individual. Incorporating a mix of pattern, print and texture creates a space that feels layered and nuanced, allowing key pieces and features of the room to come to foreground. 'The client wanted the apartment to be cozy and pretty implementing our signature use of color and pattern.

Use the upper shelves for lesser-used items you don't need to access as often. Decorate your apartment on a budget by making smart choices about where you source your decor and how much of it you use. Challenge yourself to buy vintage or secondhand pieces at local thrift stores and flea markets or your favorite online marketplaces. Keeping an eye on your budget and consumption will help the planet by keeping sustainability in mind when making choices about what to bring into your home. If you don't want to install sliding doors or it just isn't feasible in your apartment, consider placing a rod from wall to wall and then hang a curtain, as ETC.etera did here. In a studio, dividing your living and sleeping areas is the best way to make the place where you crash feel more like home.

Design a Gallery Wall

Turn your TV wall into a focal point in your living room using this clever apartment decorating idea. Hang a gallery wall of artwork around the TV to frame it, and surround the display with furniture. This TV could have been placed on the console table beneath it, but using the wall leaves the tabletop available for serving when entertaining.

Studio Apartment Decor

interior design apartment

In fact, there are a multitude of creative ways for choosing studio apartment décor, utilizing the space you have, and making it feel more open and ample. Of course, you can't magically expand your apartment's footprint (unless you knock down your neighbor's walls). With the right layout planning and décor, you can maximize every square inch of your studio to create a stunning space that’s functional, elevated, and personalized with your style. To save space on side tables and other valuable surface areas in a small apartment, mount your lighting directly on the walls.

Whether you live in a rental or you own your pad, exciting apartment decor ideas can be hard to come by. Oftentimes square footage is limited, so you have to get creative and chances are you can’t do much to combat the existing framework of the building. Whether the issue is as minor as ugly radiators or as major as ultra-tiny bedrooms, it’s unlikely there’s much you can do to radically change your apartment’s bones. Whatever the preexisting problem with your space is, fear not because there are plenty of ways to at least minimize those eyesores.

"I adore using materials that add character and authenticity to my interiors," Silvestry says. From tricks with lighting to clever ways with storage and display, these apartment decor ideas will kickstart your remodel. It’s not a bad idea to weigh your options and speak to a series of designers to see which ones you vibe with the best and fit your budget. It’s good to keep in mind that an interior designer may ask you to sign a contract or pay a deposit before working with you. Nobody puts baby in a corner...except when baby is a custom blue velvet sofa.

Stacks of books and flower arrangements make it feel like a chic console table, while a lamp—conveniently—lights both the desk and those curled up on the couch. Once you’ve determined that, she adds, it’s important to choose furnishings that do double or even triple duty. I got rid of my phone line so I wouldn’t have to look at another phone sitting on the counter or cord running to the wall.

Lastly, double-check the dimensions of whatever you want to ensure that it will comfortably fit the room. This works particularly well if you are looking for apartment entryway ideas for busy spaces. 'Apartments work best from an interior design point of view when they flow visually. Choosing the same flooring will help this no end especially if you have an open plan layout. Even if you want to go bold with a single tone, be sure to keep other accents in the room like towels, floor mats, and vanity storage simple.

'Make the most of high ceilings and beautiful architectural detailing by painting it all in one shade. It's contemporary and takes a period property to the next style level, and match your drapes to it too! The jet black office furniture with gold trim adds a retro edge and as the designs are slimline it's not heavy on the eye,' says Melanie Griffiths, editor, Period Living.

Here, Shari Frances did just that with frosted glass sliding barn doors. They're definitely not sound-proofed, but they won't block light like a solid door and will enhance your privacy. If you’re looking for a small sofa to fit your apartment, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, measure the dimensions of your space and make sure the sofa will fit. Second, consider how you’ll use the sofa and choose a style that fits your needs.

Lay Gravel in Dry Creek Bed

Unleash your inner artist by creating a pebble mosaic within your dry river bed. Arrange pebbles of different colors and sizes to create intricate patterns or images. Let your imagination run wild as you transform your garden into an art installation that is sure to impress visitors.

These DIY Dry Riverbed Landscaping Ideas will accentuate your yard, adding an extraordinary appeal to the place!

Furthermore, vibrant flowers catch the eye in no time. The dry river bed itself serves as a rustic yet appealing walking path. Furthermore, a dry river bed is such a natural solution to provide a way for rainwater. The display is also not only an appealing collection of stones and rocks.

Vintage Finds Add Personality to Dry Creek Bed

It’s a unique and eclectic look that adds a touch of exotic charm to your garden. Bring it to your garden by using seashells, coastal grasses, and dune plants in your dry river bed.

It adds a touch of charm, texture, and interest to any outdoor space. Another fantastic thing about dry river beds is that they look stunning! Your garden, terrace or yard will look so much better and different once you install one. Granted, you can always hire a professional, but that takes all the fun out of it!

This landscaping feature can attract local wildlife, like birds and butterflies, offering them a habitat and contributing to biodiversity. Moreover, a dry river bed reduces the need for irrigation, saving water and making it an eco-friendly choice. A rain garden is a great option for the end, or collection point, of a creek bed. A basic rain garden is a 6- to 9-inch-deep depression (like a small pond) filled with plants that can tolerate occasional flooding. During heavy rains, water collects in the garden and filters into the ground, usually in a matter of hours. Rain gardens are a natural solution to common drainage and stormwater problems and are recommended by many municipalities.

Add Landscape Fabric

Splash blocks redirect water from gutter downspouts, but they can look generic and messy. Instead, @housestorydesigns replaced the blocks with mini dry creek beds made of black river rock. This provides a more custom look that blends in with the surrounding mulch. Plus, unlike the splash blocks, a creek bed can be custom-built as short or as long as needed.

When planning your dry streambed, notice where the rain water collects naturally. Use this line to determine where the grass ends and the garden bed begins. Consider the use of various sizes of stone and gravel to create a more authentic look. While larger boulders may be more expensive, you can balance the design with smaller, less costly pebbles.

Varying sizes of rocks and large boulders simulate the look of a real creek bed. The bordering plants (yarrow, limonium, rosemary, and foxtail fern) provide a lush look, yet are easy to maintain and drought tolerant. If you have a spacious empty backyard, apply this design. Here, the wide dry creek bed makes up its amazing garden with lush plants, light-colored stones, trees, and shrubs. If you’re looking for an effortless dry river bed landscape, this is the one.

Tall grasses and moss growing around the rocks also help with drainage. Gray river rocks are often used in dry riverbed landscaping. Choosing the right materials is crucial for creating an appealing and lasting dry river bed. Typically, you’ll want a mix of stones and gravel with varying sizes and colors to mimic a natural river. Incorporate a variety of rock sizes for a more authentic look, graduating from larger stones along the edge to smaller pebbles toward the center.

Place landscaping fabric underneath the creek bed to prevent weeds. This small dry creek bed by @heatherhereshegrows helps with drainage. Rain flows through a copper rain chain, then streams through the creek bed into the grass. Furthermore, this dry river bed helps frame the plant beds. We suggest growing plants that are indigenous to your area.

In addition to ensuring great water drainage, it protects any landscape from high foot traffic. Laurie Bloomfield at Do It Yourself shares everything you need to know about installing a dry creek. Your landscaping will look fantastic after this project. A man-made water feature at the end of the faux river provides an added visual treat for visitors and passersby along the street. It’s a testament to the beauty of inspired landscape design that brings a touch of the wilderness into the home environment. Lava rocks and garden decorations like glass ball add to the fun.

The rock feature and ferns add character to the outdoor space. More importantly, this idea is effortless than any other project. The hens and chicks make the dry creek bed look more visually pleasing. In addition, they convert the area into a backyard oasis.

Kim Myles won Design Star Now, on High Design, shes the first in a taboo space and having fun

Her combination of design acumen, empathy, and ebullience make High Design, well, highly entertaining. HGTV Design Star winner Kim Myles had the idea for her new Discovery+ business makeover show High Design, on which she helps some of America’s small businesses, because she’s a customer herself. This season features David Bromstad as the host and mentor. This season features David Bromstad as host and mentor. And of course, there will be some exciting guest judges to help Jonathan and Lauren score the contestants each week. Jasmine Roth, Jonathan Scott, and Tia Mowry, among others, will appear as special celebrity experts.

Okay, a lot has changed over the last six months, but my husband and best friend had to convince me to do it. "No, you got to go. You're not going to get this opportunity again." To share our perspectives and exchange ideas in a welcoming, supportive space, there are rules for commenting here. By commenting below, you confirm that you’ve read and agree to those rules. There will be a rotating panel of celebrity judges featured on the new series who will help determine the fate of the designers. I wasn't pitching myself, but they were approaching me. I’m Andy Dehnart, and I created reality blurred 23 years ago as a blog to collect interesting links I found about reality TV. The contestants will fight each week to prove they are the strongest designer as the huge prize includes $50,000 in cash and their own show on the network. That was kind of like OMG; this is all the stuff that really happens behind the scenes, because creatives don't get a lot of credit. Also, it's kind of bittersweet, because we would want to share that experience with all the people, because we became so close with all our castmates. So it was a real high and a real low, because we all want to compete against each other, and we all want each other to win, I think, in the end. So it was a big relief and it was just super exciting. Kim recognizes that filming High Design and doing the work isn’t easy. “It’s me bringing in a team of people … that are massively disruptive.

Season 3

That limited what Kim and the production crew was able to do, from changing the floor plan (which is prohibited in Colorado) to organizing the products. The rules and regulations make the business complicated—and that means the actual stores get neglected. It’s really complex, the business, and the last thing on their mind is the retail environment,” she said. Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk are two of the show’s judges for 2021.

The three remaining designers must transform an 86 sq. Ft. house into a home with a kitchen, bathroom, living area, bedroom, and dining area. The designers get into 6 teams of two and design bedrooms, a great room, and a bonus room. I was just doing a styling project, and I would've never done that. And every view we were just — doing the photos, and that I could not have had that skillset. Now that just little, little tidbit, if it wasn't for this show, that was such a piece that's already translating into my everyday life.

One of her major challenges as a designer is that the stores must remain open during the makeover. I cannot close down operations while we are making them over. And the whole point is they are on the edge,” she said. As I told Kim when I interviewed her, I was surprised how much I loved High Design, but only because I’m not a customer. There have been other reality shows in this space, like Netflix’s Cooking on High, but I think the people on screen are having more fun than I am watching them. What Kim is buying is pot, in one of the 19 states that have legalized its recreational use, and she’s now turned her experience into terrific reality TV that also breaks new ground.

So [it'd] be great if you guys could just come along for it. So that's how I pitched my show to the producers. Allison Holker Boss of So You Think You Can Dance fame hosts while design icons Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk judge competitors on their work. Plus, some familar HGTV faces (does Jasmine Roth or Jonathan Scott ring a bell?) will appear throughout the season to help guest judge the competition's weekly challenges. Reality blurred is your guide to the world of reality TV and unscripted entertainment, with reality show reviews, recommendations, analysis, and news. It was created in 2000 by Andy Dehnart, who's still writing and publishing it today.

Kim Myles won Design Star. Now, on High Design, she’s the first in a taboo space—and having fun

Everybody wants us here, we all want to be here. But it’s got to be highly collaborative,” she told me. Ultimately, though, the focus is on the store and making it look better.

Nobody was, like, trying to screw anybody over. I think that, like, what Bill Godsmith said, he was just like, "You were like the most millennial generation of reality TV we've ever seen," which is, like, kind of spot-on. I believe pop culture can both entertain and affect us, and so reality blurred’s goal is to amplify the best and hold the worst accountable. In other words, let’s call out the worst, celebrate the best, and talk about it all.

Today, it’s home to a wide range of writing about entertainment rooted in real life, from competition reality shows to true-crime documentaries, and a vibrant community of pop culture fans. After the show or after we were done filming, most nights, we'd go out for dinner, especially on like the third night after elimination — just showing how in previous seasons, like Carmeon was saying, people just were not getting along at all, and they were at each other's throats. And for all of us, we were everyone's cheerleader.

Keep in mind that Zen interior design is bound to the simplicity of minimal display of items. Good storage will help you clear your clutter so that beautiful, open, free spaces are formed. If you’re looking for some inspiration on infusing your home with Zen design, we have put together a collection for you that will get your creative juices flowing. Zen design will give you your space a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere, which is exactly what you want went you come home from a stressful day at work and need to unwind. Zen design ideas have been inspired from Japanese interiors, minimalistic interior design and ancient traditions. First, you need to select a color palette for your space, try looking to nature to get some ideas.

zen interior design

Selecting Materials and Textures

This combination of natural elements creates a harmonious balance that promotes relaxation and inner peace. Adding raw and natural elements to your home creates an inviting space for the soul. Along with bringing nature indoors, you can invest in eco-friendly pieces with stone, wood, and metal. Start your decoration journey with soft furnishings like wool, cotton, or linen cushions. Jute and hemp rugs are other materials you can add to soften areas that feel cold or impersonal. Although dyed materials won't make a significant difference, it's best to use undyed natural fabrics that fit all color schemes.

Choose a soothing color palette

Another Zen way of celebrating your connection to nature is to choose natural textiles over impersonal synthetic options. That way, you’ll also reinforce their sense of comfortable lightness and coziness that can help you feel more relaxed at home. Sure, certain colors and motifs can help you reinforce this style, but don’t forget that at the very core of Zen décor is a sense of tranquility rather than specific features.

Hues such as off white, beige, sand, tan, warm brown, burnt orange, amber, soft gray, slate, leafy green, jade, cool blue, navy blue, denim blue, mauve. Don’t be afraid to add color to your space, anything can work; it is just a matter of pulling it all together to create a cohesive look. Earthy colors help with relaxation and can uplift your spirits and transport your thought to a peaceful state which can contribute to a deeper imagination and enhanced creativity. Low-lying furniture is one of the most essential elements of any zen inspired interior idea.

zen interior design

Drawing from centuries-old Zen Buddhism principles, this aesthetic marries minimalism and functionality, offering a transformative experience that goes beyond mere appearances. A well-designed Zen space not only pleases the eye, but also fosters a sense of tranquility and balance, promoting mindfulness in everyday life. With plenty of earth elements—from a tall, leafy tree to a wooden coffee table—this living room feels connected to nature.

KARI WHITMAN – COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGNER

Traditionally, Japanese gardens feature bamboo water fountains that fill and empty as the water cycles and gravity does its work. Kohei takes note of our arid climate, observing that harvested bamboo doesn’t last long in dry air. The secret to keeping the peace in any boudoir is sticking to a minimal color palette. Neutral tones ensure a calm and serene sentiment so you can breathe easily without distraction.

Pieces are typically low to the ground, promoting a more grounded and serene atmosphere. Materials used include wood, stone, and rattan, chosen for their natural, calming qualities. Many Japanese designers opt for a Japandi aesthetic, which blends Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian interior design principles. Zen Japanese interior design is a captivating approach to creating a serene, harmonious living space.
